Getting Over It?

Updated: Jul 5, 2020

MJ: Paul wrote in Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. I picture this as a mantra to help us through the fearful times. It gives us a positive focus for our thinking, thus allowing us to control our thoughts, thus our emotions, in a helpful way. Even Jesus is quoted as having said, “Fear not.” As if to say, get over it!

Perhaps if we controlled our thinking, we could control our responses to threats, real or perceived, in order to not trigger our fight, flight, or freeze reactions, which hypes up are adrenal glands and puts our bodies into a state of perpetual overload (stress), which then creates a myriad of health issues.

Following the above examples, what then do you suggest we do to begin to surpass our fears?

Percell: We do so by employing a two-step process into our lives. The first, and easier one, is to learn and understand the true meanings of Love and Fear, for these are the heartbeats of Life and All that there Is. The second, and unfortunately more difficult, is to face the fear. It has been said that when we face our fears, they dissipate on their own merits. More simply, what this means is that we face a fear, then it is no longer a fear. The unknown has become realized. Now it is another event in our lives requiring some sort of attention or action. There are ways to do this. I urge everyone who is facing Fear, to seek Love. This is a crucial and difficult step in the process. Some may do this on their own. Yet, there is no shame in seeking a good coach / counselor to help guide you.
